Rogerson & Gardening: The Art of Well Being

There's something about the smell of fresh soil, the warmth of the sun on your back, and the gentle hum of nature that can lift your spirits and bring a sense of peace and purpose to your life. At Rogerson House, we believe that gardening is not just a therapeutic activity, but a way of life for our residents.

Our garden is a soothing spot to relax and enjoy the profusion of color, and a place where our residents engage in the creation of the Rogerson House gardens:  selecting planting, weeding, nurturing and harvesting. We believe that this hands-on approach to gardening provides a sense of purpose and accomplishment hard to find in other activities.

Horticulture is the science and art of growing fruits, vegetables, flowers, or ornamental plants. For centuries, the focus of horticulture has been finding ways to change and improve plants — how humans can grow a bigger rose, a sweeter apple or a more pest resistant lemon, for instance. Somewhere along the way, it became recognized that not just the plant was being changed, but the person. That’s where horticultural therapy (HT) came to the fore, focusing on how the process of horticulture can be used to improve the individual. (source: BeingPatient.com)

The joy of gardening is a part of the Rogerson House spirit. Residents take pride in their work and appreciate the fruits of their labor. The herbs and vegetables from the garden are used in the kitchen, where our residents help to prepare their meals, further enhancing their sense of accomplishment and purpose.

Each year, Rogerson House residents host an Annual Seedling Sale.  Please join us on Saturday June 10th from 10am-5pm to take home a little piece of that Rogerson garden spirit and be inspired to create your own oasis in the city.

Come see for yourself!  Please join us at Rogerson House on Saturday, June 17th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for our Annual Seedling Sale.  Choose from a wide variety of ornamental and vegetable seedlings:  from cosmos to zinnias,  from basil to eggplants, tomatoes and peppers.  Our residents and the seedlings they have lovingly nurtured will inspire you to create your own oasis in the city.
